ELECTRONICAL / PROGRAMMING
Roland VS840EX- All the Phathom stuff and part of the PF Squad's "No Annexation" has been done on this sucker. As far as the Roland VS recorders go, this seems to have the best effects built into it (even better than the more expensive ones). The amp modeling in it for guitars and bass is really good, part of why I don't own amps right now. It has a great envelope filter tone in it, which is essential for my bass tone. I'd love to retire this sucker for a pro-tools set up...
Boss Dr-202- I picked this up during the "No Annexation" recording, and have been using it for all the drum programming I've done since (check out the Count Spatula stuff). It also has some great analog synth tones in it that I've been using alot as well. Fakes a Moog and Juno really good.
Yamaha SY-22- I've had this synth since I was about 13. I've used this on pretty much everything I've ever recorded, from PF all the way to Phathom. I got gripes on what this keyboard can do (no filters!), but it's still working 13 years later, so rock on...

HERE IS SOME OF THE GEAR I'VE BEEN USING OVER THE YEARS...
BASSES
(SPECTOR) SSD NS-95- It's a neck-through, and active. I was that close to getting a Warwick Rockbass Corvette, but the strings were just too close to dig into for slapping. I tried this one out and BAM, perfect width between the strings. I haven't recorded with this bass yet, but I've been using it live all the time and getting complimented frequently on this thing's tone. I'm not a corporate guy, but I give my recommendation of Spector basses, they have great tone and you can get them without tossing down a ton of money. Also, I've found that Spector has a great customer service department (helped me solve my bridge problem) that answers questions pretty quickly.

Squier P-Bass- I used this bass to record the last two Phathom CD's. Sounded pretty good on my VS840. As soon as I started playing this bass live with Red Earth I hated it more each day, sounded awful. I tried to use it while recording "Zia Soul", and it just sounded like crap in that nice studio, so I ended up using a borrowed Modulus and using that on everything except "Fourth World". I actually used this bass on that tune, but recorded it on my VS840, so it sounded okay. I sent this bass on down the road a couple months back...
GUITARS
'99 Epiphone Riviera - Got this guitar in '99 (around the end of the PF days), and used it really heavily live with Phathom in the hip-hop days, became my main guitar. Once Phathom got crunchier it didn't show up so much cuz it would feedback heavy, but it's been my main recording guitar. I've kept it stock cuz it sounds fine to me...
Ibanez RG - Got this guitar at a garage sale for $5 at a garage sale back in 99. It sounded like shit. I would use this with PF for the live finales as a divebomber and toss it around the stage. Later I ripped the electronics out (replaced with new ones and Duncan JB trembucker and 59, and a middle Tom Anderson single coil), and refinished it. It's a new instrument since then. I alternated between my Epiphone and this for the Phathom recordings.
1982 Fender usa Stratocaster- I don't have this one anymore, but from the age of 12 through the PF days this was my main axe. All the PF recordings were on this guitar. It was a hard tail (no trem) model, so it had a sick tone to it. Had to let her go, thanks to the Bush economy...stupid asshole. The only mod I did to this guitar was adding a Duncan Hot Rails Mini Humbucker in the bridge.

STRINGS
As for Bass, I've been using Ernie Ball Slinky light guages. The reason being that they have a great customer service department. Playing slap I go through strings quick.
As for Guitar, I don't feel strongly about any particular brand. I use heavy guage strings (generally 12's or 13's). Since I use envelope filters so often, you really need heavy strings to get the best sweeps. If you use a 9 on your high E string it's too weak to even get a sweep alot of the time.

DIGITECH Whammy Pedal

AMPS
For guitars, I used a Roland JC-120 for years, from the PF days up till the early Phathom days. I switched to a Laney Pro Tube Lead 100w stack after all the Phathom lineup switches, plus the JC got Krispy-Kremed when the 808 burnt down. As far as a bass rig I'm just using what's available at the time i.e. show up, plug in, play, leave.
